This past Sunday, Ryan and I loaded Goose & Poppy into the car and drove to Folly Beach for brunch. Back in January, when we were doing the Whole 30, we had friends visit us, and we went to Lost Dog Cafe. Ryan and I were strictly adhering to the Whole 30 rules, so we ordered the only things on the menu we could eat: coffee, eggs, and fruit. After we watched our friends eat their food, Ryan told me it was one of the toughest days of his life! Needless to say, we’ve both been craving Lost Dog since.
So fast forward a couple months, and we decide to return and actually eat some of their non-Whole 30 options. And y’all… I had forgotten how delicious Lost Dog’s food is!
We ordered a cinnamon roll because the menu hinted that they were a popular item. It did not disappoint! Seriously, y’all, if you’re not in the mood for a heavy meal, I highly recommend ordering a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll. As Ryan put it, “those calories were worth it!”
For our main meal, I ordered the Eggs Benedict special with a shrimp cake, crab cake, asparagus, and hollandaise sauce. Wow! Lost Dog’s crab cake was one of the bestI’ve ever eaten, and I loved the way the poached eggs mixed with the hollandaise sauce and the flavor of the crab and shrimp.
Ryan ordered the Huevos Rancheros and judging from how quickly they disappeared off his plate, he enjoyed them. He also polished off the portion of my Eggs Benedict that I couldn’t finish. Overall, I’d say this is one of our favorite brunch spots in Charleston.
Yes, Folly Beach is a little bit of a hike for us (since we live on the opposite side of the Charleston Peninsula) but Lost Dog Cafe is worth it. Be prepared to wait for a table (otherwise try to arrive early to avoid crowds). We’re going on a “stay-cation” to Folly next month with Ryan’s parents and brother, and I can’t wait to eat at Lost Dog Cafe again! Be sure and check it out next time you’re in the area!
Love, Emma
Yum! Can’t wait!
