We are fast approaching my FAVORITE time of year: Christmas!

Hallmark is already showing cheesy, festive Christmas movies almost every evening (and I admit, I’ve watched a few. Hey, they always end happily! At work, we’ve been talking about some of our favorite Christmas movies, and I wanted to list my Top Five … and I also added a couple bonus ones because I had trouble limited myself to five.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. This is, hands down, my favorite Christmas movie to watch. Most years, my family sits down on Christmas Eve to watch this, and my dad’s reaction to the hilarious scenes are what I enjoy the most. He starts laughing, but it’s a silent, leg-slapping, seal-like laughter. It’s great! My favorite quote from the film? See below:

 

Home Alone is yet another Christmas movie I love, mostly because it keeps me laughing the whole time. When you watch it as an adult, though, I feel like you realize that Kevin was REALLY sassy to his parents and probably deserved to sleep in the attic with his bed-wetting cousin. And Buzz had Playboy magazines hidden in his room! The McCalister kids were an interesting group—that’s for sure!

 

The Polar Express. I love Tom Hanks, and the fact that he plays almost every single role in this oddly lifelike film makes me very happy. This movie is a sweet, emotional ride from the beginning to the end, and I love watching it with a steaming mug of hot chocolate while the lights on my Christmas tree twinkle.

 

The Santa Clause is one of those iconic holiday films I remember from my childhood. After all, who doesn’t love a film about a reluctant hero? A man who doesn’t have time for Christmas becomes the new Santa but resists his newfound role is bound to be a hit. This movie gives me such warm, cozy feelings. It’s like unwrapping a holiday gift every single time.

 

Christmas with the Kranks. Based on the novel Skipping Christmas by John Grisham, this movie explores the hilarity that ensues when a middle-aged couple tries to “skip” Christmas… while living in the middle of a Christmas-obsessed neighborhood. It’s interesting how two great Christmas movies star Tim Allen… Hmmm…

 

I know I said that I’d give you my Top 5, but I have so many more than deserve honorable mention: The Holiday, Love Actually, White Christmas, I’ll Be Home For Christmas, and last (but NEVER least), A Charlie Brown Christmas. Talking about all of these makes me want to watch them, but I’ll wait till a little closer to the holiday season.
