I have some exciting news, y’all. Some of you may have already seen it on Facebook, but I now officially have my own website!
For months, I have wanted to design my own website, and I knew a little bit about a website and the software needed to design it. But why didn’t I get around to it sooner? I simply couldn’t find the time. I was trying to focus on writing more than building my author platform, so I kept putting it off and putting it off.
And then a friend in the writing community approached me. She designed her own website and has helped several other authors establish theirs as well. She is getting ready to kickstart a website-design program for other authors, and she wanted to know if I wanted to be a “beta tester” for the program. Of course I said yes!
So, from there, my friend Brittany and I began chatting about what I envisioned for my website, what features I wanted it to have, what color scheme I wanted, etc. We did several Skype calls so we could look over the site as it progressed. She did all the work, and I was able to sit back and watch her create my website! It was so exciting for me to see it all coming together.
Once the website was designed to fit my needs and wants, Brittany and I did ANOTHER Skype call where she walked me through how to modify, update, or change anything on my website whenever I needed to. In addition, the website creator (www.Wix.com) was offering a promotion this week—50% all of their packages—so I went ahead and purchased a year’s subscription to one of their top packages, which means I have my own domain. I have a web address with a “.com” ending!!
So here it is. My website. My author website. This means that when I publish my book next year, I’ll already have a website established! I’m already getting subscribers to my page, and I’ll be able to send out newsletters, which I’ll probably do monthly for now.
Anyways, there it is. I have a website! I’m thrilled at how it turned out, and I cannot praise Brittany enough for all of her hard work. If you haven’t checked my website out yet, go look at it, and let me know what you think!
I’ve also just realized how many exclamation points this post has in it, but oh well. I’m excited!
