This weekend, we had a “cold front” come through. And by “cold”, I mean that the humidity dropped significantly, and I don’t think the temperature rose above ninety all weekend. Because the weather was so nice, I knew that I couldn’t stay inside on Friday night (plus Ryan says that we shouldn’t spend every Friday night in watching Live PD).
FRIDAY: Since the weather was so mild, we decided to head downtown to Workshop. Workshop is a unique, urban food court of sorts. It’s a venue where restaurant ideas that don’t have the funds or desire to open their own brick and mortar locations can rent a space. We went on Friday because we had heard that Pink Bellies, a Vietnamese restaurant famous for its Garlic Noodles, would be leaving Workshop in October. I had heard so much about these noodles that I couldn’t let Pink Bellies leave without trying them, so we off we went.
Oh. My. Gosh. Talk about buttery, garlic heaven! I enjoyed every single bite of these. Ryan liked them, but he preferred his BBQ burrito from Don Luis, the Mexican BBQ restaurant that is in the same building in Pink Bellies.
Later, after dinner, we took a walk through Shem Creek Park because it was so cool outside, and a steady breeze kept the bugs away. It was such a pleasant night to be out by the water.
SATURDAY: Ryan had to work, but I headed over to Brown Fox Coffee, a small local establishment, to meet a friend for coffee. She hadn’t met Poppy yet, so I took the dogs with me. After coffee, I took Goose and Poppy to Alhambra Hall so that they could run and play. My friend Bek, who owns Roo (Goose’s brother), met us, and the dogs played for about an hour—enough to wear them out!
After the park, Bek came back to my house and we watched “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”, which is on Netflix and one of the cutest teenage rom-coms I’ve seen in a long time. Seriously. It was so sweet and innocent, and the characters were so quirky and funny. It made us laugh and cry. Go watch it. It’s a feel-good movie.
On Saturday night, I decided to get culinary, and I put a pot roast in the oven (using the Lady & Sons Pot Roast recipe) and also whipped up a quick Chocolate Delight. Mama’s Nutty Chocolate Delight recipes calls for pecans, but since Ryan’s allergic, I made some changes.
SUNDAY: We headed back to Alhambra Hall on Sunday to help “celebrate” the birthday of one of our doggie friends, another Blue Merle Border Collie named Mary Jane. So many other dogs were out playing, and we ended up staying out for nearly two hours before heading to brunch at one of my favorite breakfast spots— Page’s Okra Grill. They’re always so crowded, but we only had to wait about forty minutes.

After lunch, Roo (Goose’s brother) came home with us because Bek had somewhere to be. Ryan had to go into work for a couple hours, so I stayed home with the three dogs…all of whom PASSED OUT! They were worn slap out, and it was so funny to watch them all just fall asleep in different spots. The apartment was so quiet for about two hours while they slept.
Another big thing that happened on Sunday: I started writing a new novel. Granted, I only wrote the first few sentences, but I’ve got it planned out already, and I’m excited to really get to work on it.
